Gardaí Issue Tips to Stop the Burglar as Number of Break-ins Increase in our Community

At recent meetings of both the Finglas safety forum and the Navan road/Pelletstown policing forum Gardaí gave some details in relation to the increase in the number of break-ins in the local area. Following this surge in break-ins An Garda Síochána have issued the following advice to help prevent break-ins.

This simple three-point message is a reminder to:
  • Put the Alarm on,
  • Lock all Doors and Windows, and
  • Leave a Light on when leaving your home empty.
It is also a good idea to set timer switches to turn lamps and radios on and off.As the clocks go back, evenings become darker and create ideal opportunities for thieves. By remembering these simple steps every time you leave your property, you will make it less attractive to burglars. Doors and Windows should also be locked even when you're in, as thieves are opportunists, and it only takes them a few seconds to enter a property and steal items.

Fianna Faíl Local Election candidate for Cabra- Finglas David Costello said:
While out canvassing recently in the Navan Rd. area I witnessed a house being broken into. It was early evening, just as darkness was falling. From my experience as a bystander it was frightening, I can't begin to imagine how victims of these crimes feel.
Costello commended the speedy response of the Gardaí saying
They arrived within minutes of being called and where very efficient when taking statements. I was glad to be of some assistance to them.
Costello also said:
While I understand that  Garda Síochána are doing there best to crack down on crime in our community, it is my firm belief that they are under resourced.
Following the announcement that the Sergeant from Cabra station is to retire later this year, Costello is calling on the Garda commissioner and the Justice minister to ensure he is replaced without delay. He said:
We have already seen the opening hours of Cabra Garda station reduced. I will not stand for further reduction in services. I want to see an effective police presence maintained for Cabra and the Navan rd.
